2022 in Review

Below is a recap of our main 2022 events and activities. We had a busy year!

French Language Award

Congratulations to St Ursula's College Year 12 student Ella Hayes who was awarded the Alliance Française CQ French Language Award in 2022.

We created and sponsored this new award in 2021 to recognise the highest achieving Year 12 student and to strengthen our positive relationship with the College. St Ursula’s is the only high school offering French in the region. It is our intention to sponsor this Award annually.

Bastille Day Lunch!

On July 16, we organised a French inspired lunch and afternoon of activities at Cockscomb Veterans Bush Retreat. We cooked some galettes de sarrasin (buckwheat pancakes, a specialty of Brittany), ate French food, played pétanque, sang French songs and tested our knowledge of French culture, history and language with a fun quiz!

Defi Inter Alliances

In August, some students and members took part in an online competition / quiz between several Alliances Françaises in Australia. Congrats to our local winners who took part in the national final!

October was a busy month!!

Le Bon Weekend on Konomie Island started the month’s events.

LE BON WEEKEND took place on 15-16 October 2022, a French adventure on a tropical island!

Around 20 students and friends of the Alliance attended this wonderful week-end of French fun and activities on Konomie (North Keppel Island). As always, it was a privilege to spend a weekend on this beautiful pristine and secluded island.

Vive la France! event on 20 October

This was a first for us! We were invited by Livingstone Shire Council to organise a series of French themed activities for Seniors’ Month. The day included a fun quiz about France, a song workshop and a light dinner made of French inspired food.

Finally, in partnership with our friends Keppel Flix, the day concluded with the French film "The Young Lovers".

19 October: Webinar about the French language

Dr Françoise Daquin, Historian and expert in 18th and 19th Century French History presented a webinar about the origins and diversity of the French language and its dialects. This event was coordinated by CQUniversity Australia Jawun Research Centre.
